It depends on the scope of the disaster. There's nothing wrong with one across the street if the disaster you're trying to prevent is a fire or flood in your main data center. For many companies, having a building across the street is all they can afford and a *lot* better than no DR site at all.

Why/how? Your prod media servers aren't still 5.x, are they?
Hot catalog backups were not supported until 6.0.
