Thanks for the caution about the streaming issue - we are currently only
backing up one directory, so multiple streams should not be an issue.

However, this presents a small issue for our UNIX backups.

In our Data Protector configuration, we have all our unix clients in one
backup policy, with a pre/post exec scripts that run. The pre-exec script
shuts down our databases, synchronizes our business copies, and then brings
the database back up. We then have multiple streams that run to 2 dedicated
tape drives. Once the backup completes, we then start some of our reporting
up on our database.

I had hoped to just convert this process over with the bpstart/bpend, but I
think we may to invoke the force streams option...

I believe in Windows, it is located in "C:\Program
Files\VERITAS\NetBackup\bin\goodies".

There are bpstart_notify.bat and bpend_notify.bat scripts. You can modify
them to run other scripts, at the start and end of the backup. But BE
CAUTIONED! These start script runs prior to each stream, and the end runs
after each stream. Not just when the whole backup starts/stops. So this
works ok if you are running one stream (ie) all_local_drives. But if you
run multiple streams, it is not much use. If you use them to stop/start
services, the services will be going up/down multiple times during your
backup.

In fact, is there anyone out there that uses these scripts with multiple
streams? Just curious what they are good for.

When you say you are currently using Storage Data Protector, is that HP's
Data Protector? I know that has preexec and postexec scripts that run prior
to the whole backup, and after the whole backup.

Enviroment Information: Netbackup Master Server - W2K3SP1/NBU 6.0 MP3/LTO 3

We are currently deploying Netbackup into our datacenter enviroment (we are
currently using Storage Data Protector). I have one backup that requires a
script to be run before the backup kicks off, and one that needs to run once
the backup completes, and these scripts must run local to the host. These
are all Windows clients.

Can anyone point me in the right direction - I am not quite sure how to do
this....
