We looked at them for quite a while. Management went another direction.
I like it because they have some nice throughput and they will save you
money in terms of electric and cooling (tens of thousands most likely).
They have two controllers that will emmulate any library platform you
may have (at least what I remember). I am pretty sure they are able to
sustain throughputs over 200MB/sec (+1TB/hour). A technology worth a
long look. I am pretty sure they have some replication software built in
too if you needed that functionality. The road map also included a file
system (but that was a while ago).

As much as Copan says they are there to replace tape I am a believer
that tape (for one reason or another) will most likely be with IT for
quite some time. Their product can definitely reduce your tape demand
and the human element used to manage them.

Subject: [Veritas-bu] Copan Systems - MAID Technology

Has anyone looked at the MAID (Massive Arrays of Idle Disk) solution
from Copan? They have been marketing it as a replacement for tape and
as a pseudo-VTL. This looks like not much more than just another disk
(JBOD) to be used in a D2D pool.

Any thoughts or comments about their solution?
