Hi Simon

After you changed the netbackup services to startup with the "SQL" user
account, did you lock out and locked in with this user?
When you setup ODBC, you need to do it for this "SQL" user account.

1. Change netbackup client services to startup with SQL user account.
2. Lock out and lock in with this SQL user account.
3. Setup ODBC. Make sure that it is set for TCP/IP.
4. Go out of the ODBC setup and go to command prompt.
5. In \VERITAS\netbackup\bin run dbbackup -mssql -dsn <the name that you gave
in the ODBC>
6. It would come up with an error which is ok. It will startup the login window.
7. In the login window, enter the "SQL" user and its password. Make sure that
you can confirm the password.
8. Go to the database window and highlight all the databases you want to
backup. Don't take Master and Tmp. Select for later execution. This would
create the *.bch file that you will use in you backup.
9. Run backup. It should start you parent backup, and then for every database
it back up a default-policy backup will run. If one or all of the
default-policies cannot run, your parent backup will fail with error 6. Usually
it is due to permissions.

If I got something wrong, it is because I don't do that many SQL installations
and they are far apart. This is however the path I do it in, and it works.

JR

Hi Everyone,
Well I finally got the SQL guru to give the domain account "netbackupsql"
db_owner priviledge however this has made no difference at all. I am still
getting the status 6 error code.

ODBC was deleted again (5th time now :) ) and recreated with NT
authentication. I created a new .BCH file from the SQL GUI (selected all the
DB and told it to save for later and gave it a new name, then in the
Netbackup Policy, pointed it towards the new .BCH file!

Is there anything I need to do in the BCH file?

Hello Simon

Is this account that you are using for the netbackup service, or is it still
set to the default local system account?

Good luck len

Hello Dave
Well the SA account is disabled, but he did give me an account to try and
that is also failing!

Ask the DBA to let you try it with the sa account for testing purposes and
see
if that works.

if it does, then it is a permissions issue with the account he/she set up.
