This happens when NW works with a 'rewind' but not a 'no-rewind' tape drive. 
You select this via the device name, but for Linux/UNIX only.

I don't know whether you changed your configuration at all but i would look at 
  - the tape driver
  - the device name (if it is attached to a Linux/UNIX storage node).
