[Networker] Setup Networker for DR test
2010-04-16 11:08:51
Hello,
I have been given the task of testing Network for another offices DR
Backgroup
Our office uses Backup Exec and this runs with any issues and I have been using
Backup Exec in it many differnt forms for a long time.
I have now been given 18 LTO3 tapes from our Norway office and told that we
need to be able to restore from these in the event of them having a DR
situation. They use Networker (not sure what version)
So I have setup a new server running Windows 2008 R2 which is connected to a
Dell TL4000 tape library with 2 x LTO3 Fibre Channel drives.
I have installed Networker 7.6 and configured the Library (at least I think I
have)
I then tried to load (mount) the tape using the GUI but this just spat the tape
back out to the slot with a error about the volume. At the same time I got an
email error from the tape library!?!
So off to google I went.
>From what I could find I need to use the scanner command to read the tapes.
scanner -i \\.\tape0
The following is a portion of the output I have got so far (the command is
still running)
C:\Program Files\Legato\nsr\bin>sjimm [email protected] slot 21 drive 1
C:\Program Files\Legato\nsr\bin>scanner -i \\.\tape0
8909:scanner: using '\\.\tape0' as the device name

8814:scanner: ssid 779472241: host `updnos400' must be a valid host name
OK
So from this I can see that I need to create what I am guessing is a media pool
called `Centrica Full Backup'
So I went to the Media section on the server and created a Media Pool called
Name - Centrica Full Backup
Configuration
Basic Tab settings
Enable - True
Pool Type - Backup
Label template - Default
Selection Criteria Tab settings
Data Source
Clients - I have left blank, I tried to Add one of the clietns that was showing
in the command prompt out put but I got an error "Client hrlnws02xp not
configured on this server"
Save Sets - I have left blank
Levels: - I ticked Full
Everything else I left as default.
What I realy could do with is some help with what to do once the scan is
finished?
I.e. what do I need to do next to be able to restore the data from these tapes
to a folder on the server?
I have tried to get help from other users in the company that use this software
but they are not be very helpfull.
Many thanks in advance for your assistance
