I have realized that in order to read the CM contents, we need to access
it through the particular drive's interface, not the API for the CM
itself. The method for accessing that information probably uses propietary
extensions for each drive manufacturer. Mine are HP drives, and HP has a
Tape Tools package. The documentation seems to say it will read the
information, but I haven't gotten it to work yet. I have to use it from an
HP-UX server through a curses interface or command line, and it isn't easy
to understand the documentation or use the CSI access. The software is a
free download, at least. I'll let you know if I get it to work.
