Ah ok, there goes most of my theories... Now we're back to looking at
your device config then.... Can you run:

 inquire -v 

If /dev/rmt1.1 and /dev/rmt/2.1 do point at the same drive the you
should see in the inquire output that they show the same S/N  (serial
number of the drive hardware).
