Hi

I just checked, and the NetWorker V7.3 certification exams are not yet
offered by Thomson. As you said, they should be soon.

In addition to NetWorker-centric training, EMC has just (this quarter) added
a new topic to the EMC Proven Professional program: Backup and Recovery.
There are two tracks currently available:

The Backup and Recovery Implementation Engineer Specialist (EMCIE) level
credential ensures backup and recovery professionals are knowledgeable in
backup concepts and terminology. The Specialist candidate has the ability
to implement solution designs utilizing CLARiiON CX series, Celerra NS
series, and CLARiiON Disk Library (CDL) hardware as the backup to disk
destination storage device. The candidate also has the ability to configure
and administer a CDL through the CDL console. The Specialist candidate has
the knowledge to implement a NetWorker backup strategy (e.g., staging,
pools, groups, cloning, performance, licenses, CDL).

The Backup and Recovery Technology Architect Specialist (EMCTA) level
credential ensures backup and recovery professionals are knowledgeable in
backup concepts and terminology, and can identify how backup and recovery
options (e.g., backup levels, RPO, RTO, media type, network topologies,
customer business requirements) impact a design. The Specialist candidate
has the ability to create solution designs utilizing CLARiiON CX series,
Celerra NS series, and CLARiiON Disk Library (CDL) hardware as the backup to
disk destination storage device. The Specialist candidate is aware of
multiple backup software solutions (e.g., NetWorker, TSM, NetBackup), has
the knowledge to design a NetWorker backup strategy (e.g., staging, pools,
groups, cloning, performance, licenses, CDL), and has an understanding of
methodologies for assessment, planning, and design activities that precede
the creation of the implementation plan.

Both certifications are based on the following current EMC software and
Hardware:

NetWorker 7.3 and

Replication Manager 3.0

CLARiiON Disk Library 2.0

I'd be interested in learning of similar programs and certifications. This
is the first I've seen that is backup-centric.

Hi everyone,

I saw the questions on the list about NetWorker training. I'm a
consultant and instructor with Cambridge Computer, and I helped write
our NetWorker 7.2 and 7.3 classes. If you have any questions about the
classes, please feel free to email me directly:

RE: certification: There's no course available for NetWorker which
includes certification as part of the course. The official EMC
certification tests are computer-based tests administered through
Prometric. Currently there are two of them: a NetWorker Administrator
test which covers basic NetWorker administration, and a Specialist test
that covers more advanced NetWorker topics. You don't have to take a
class to take the test, although it's recommended.

As far as I know the 7.3 certification tests aren't out yet (they
usually follow a few months behind the software releases), so I don't
know yet what will be on them. But our class serves as very good
preparation for the 7.2 Administration certification test, although the
core focus is hands-on administration. It also covers most, although not
all, of the topics on the advanced test.

Thanks very much for the kind words about the classes!

Allison
