Re: [Networker] Tape drive issues with Networker 7.1.1 and PowerVault 132T

[I have a habit of still working on these after I send e-mail, and then
finding more relevant info]
These drives are shared by Dynamic Drive Sharing to two Windows 2003
servers being operated as Dedicated Storage Nodes. I can mount tapes on
the DSNs perfectly fine - I only get the errors when trying to mount
tapes on the Linux server (which is the Networker server).

I've got Networker 7.1.1 running on a Linux box with a Dell PowerVault
132T with two SDLT320 drives attached via SAN.
After some SAN issues, I don't seem to be able to use one of the drives.
We've reset everything, and everything seems to work great, except for
this one drive. The drive has physically been replaced already.
Whenever I try and load a tape via "nsrjb -l", I get the following:
cranes [6:17pm] ~ # nsrjb -lv -f /dev/nst1 000009
setting verbosity level to `1'
Jukebox handle being opened at port [email protected]
box_inventory:

Slot `9' is being loaded into drive `/dev/nst1'
box_display: `000009' for drive `/dev/nst1'
Jukebox handle being closed at port [email protected]
load sleep for 5 seconds
nsrjb: About to read label on /dev/nst1
nsrjb: About to eject volume from /dev/nst1
eject sleep for 5 seconds
Jukebox handle being opened at port [email protected]
Unloading jukebox: drive `/dev/nst1' into slot `9'
Jukebox handle being closed at port [email protected]
unload sleep for 5 seconds
Error: while operating on slot `9': expected volume '000009' got 'NULL'.
nsrjb: Jukebox error: Tue 18:21:43 expected volume '000009' got 'NULL'.
In the logs I also get "read open error: drive status is", and that's it.
If I try the mount from the GUI, I get much the same, plus:
Feb 15 18:25:58 cranes logger: NetWorker media: (warning) /dev/nst1
opening: DRIVE_STATUS_CARTRIDGE_FAULT
Feb 15 18:25:58 cranes logger: NetWorker media: (warning) /dev/nst1
opening: DRIVE_STATUS_CARTRIDGE_FAULT
Feb 15 18:25:58 cranes logger: NetWorker media: (warning) /dev/nst1
reading: read open error: drive status is There is a tape cartridge fault
Feb 15 18:25:59 cranes logger: NetWorker media: (warning) /dev/nst1
opening: DRIVE_STATUS_CARTRIDGE_FAULT
After the tape drive was replaced, I _was_ able to mount a tape in it,
but other issues (dynamic drive sharing - Windows DSNs got the drives
backwards) needed to be resolved, and now its not working again.
I've tried "nsrjb -HHv" a number of times. Oddly, the output of this
seems to indicate that there is always tapes that need unloading in BOTH
drives, and clainms that they "may have a tape stuck in it."
Is anyone familiar with these symtpoms and a solution?
-Brian
