As you can see this process is accessing my /dev/nst1 drive.

This information is ONLY useful on Linux servers and I am running RH AS 2.1
in my environments.  If someone can respond back with any equivalents for
Sun that would be great.

The lsof command works on many platforms, and is source-available.

Many commercial platforms come with the much-less-able `fuser' command,
which would likely work in this situation.  You could also find this
information using a kernel debugger, but that's more of the Zen master
approach.

I wasn't aware of the technique you used, and it's useful for some of
the stripped down boxes we have that don't have lsof installed.  Nice
trick.
