even though you modified the hosts file, can you ping both short and long
name both ways? make sure every possible client name is in the alias field.

Subject: [Networker] backup client from another windows domain
Hello,
I'm using Networker 5.5.3,
my backup server (nt4) is on one domain and my client (windows 2000) is on
another one.
problem:
I can't backup the client, error message: "my_w2k_client is not a
registered client"...
I modifiy host file to provide communication between them,
the network server interface is configured.
Is it a problem of:
-> network communication ? "my_w2k_client" is a dns name even if a remove
it from the client alias (because dns is not workink between the two domain)
-> NT right because there's no approbation ?
-> something else ?
