Hi Benny,

About the "bacula-dir dead but subsys locked", try to do a stop and a start again. About upgrading bacula database, you can do this with the "update_bacula_tables" script (bacula bin dir, same place as make_catalog_backup and so on).

About the logs, check your Messages configuration at the bacula-dir.conf. There is a way that you configure bacula to send the messages to a log file (/etc/bacula/working, in the example bellow):

Messages {

Name = Daemon

mailcommand = "..."

mail = bacula AT mydomain DOT com = all, !skipped

console = all, !skipped, !saved

append = "/etc/bacula/working/log" = all, !skipped

}
