The total that is ever written to the tapes in question is 1.5GB or so.
Wouldn't make much sense to waste DLT's on them (which I do use for
large jobs).

Yeah. I check the DDS tapes every once in awhile. Never had a bad
restore, and DLT is definitely overkill for me. Bacula is sort of a
niche software for us -- we use it for non-production backups and
backups that are not supported by HP Data Protector (which used to be
more, but now that they've upgraded a couple of times, it supports most
of what we have).
