thoughts:
* take an lvm snapshot and backup the db files directly or
* configure a replicated mysql setup and take the backup on the second
server or
* use mysqlhotcopy (never used myself) or
* split the catalog in x catalogs to get smaller databases (hmm.. size
doesnt change but maybe bacula remains usable while backup) or
* there are for sure other ways to do it (like buying a faster server). ;)
