On Thu, 15 May 2008, Attila Flp spaketh thusly:

-}No I don't think so. I had to run the btape tests yesterday since I did a
major
-}upgrade of my OS (mail is soon to follow). So now I know what I'm talking
about ;-)
-}The first problem you have is that, at least under FreeBSD, btape can't
access the
-}tape drive without a tape in it. I would suggest the following procedure:
-}
-} - place two blank tapes into slots 1 + 2, btape looks for them there.
-} - load the first tape: mtx -f /dev/pass1 load 1 and wait for the changer
-} to settle
-} - run btape, it should now have no problem with the tape drive.
-} - run the test command, it will test the changer as well
-} - run the fill test

Ha-ha! SCORE!

No tape in the drive. All tests passed with flying colors!!!! I went back
over the documentation on the bacula site and found a blurb about for freebsd
making sure a tape is loaded before starting bacula.

Tnx heaps and loads, Attila.

Hey BTW - do you or anybody know how to get the bconsole program to build on
freebsd? I did a simple make install in the bacula-server ports dir but
bconsole didn't get built. I've found /usr/local/share/bacula/bconsole which
is just a front-end for /usr/local/sbin/bconsole which doesn't exist. Locate
just shows the one in /usr/local/share/bacula:
root dude ? locate bconsole
/usr/local/share/bacula/bconsole
/usr/ports/sysutils/bacula-server/work/bacula-2.2.8/manpages/bconsole.8
/usr/ports/sysutils/bacula-server/work/bacula-2.2.8/scripts/bconsole
/usr/ports/sysutils/bacula-server/work/bacula-2.2.8/scripts/bconsole.in
/usr/ports/sysutils/bacula-server/work/bacula-2.2.8/src/console/bconsole.conf
/usr/ports/sysutils/bacula-server/work/bacula-2.2.8/src/console/bconsole.conf.in
/usr/ports/sysutils/bacula-server/work/bacula-2.2.8/src/win32/installer/bconsole.conf.in

This is also the only instance that shows up in the install log:
root dude ? egrep bconsole /tmp/bacula-server.install
config.status: creating scripts/bconsole
config.status: creating src/console/bconsole.conf
/usr/bin/install -c -o root -g wheel -m 0754 bconsole
/usr/local/share/bacula/bconsole

So where's the bin?

I'm thinking this may be a question for the port maintainer but and still
poking around trying things. I originally installed with bat and bwx support
disabled but am going to rebuild with both enabled to see if the binary is
generated.
