the VM (and others) runs OK.

backups are as fast as their where before.
generation of other pages is also OK.

as I wrote before I doubled the amount of RAM, when 1024 was already working
fine for several month (and was more than enough) as it didn't affect
anything... page is still slow...

It is clear that your VM is running slowly, but it is still not clear if the
number of http servers/clients/requests are affecting speed (which should
only be RAM-related) or if something external sharing resources (other VMs
and applications on the same host/disk) are affecting it.
