Of course this depends on the # of files you have in your pool and it's
current size. As smaller both numbers are as better your chances for a
proper solution.

Re the physical I'd strongly recommend to put it on a redundant RAID
array (RAID5 or better RAID1- if you want additional performance RAID50
or RAID10). Just wondering why you have a backup if s single disk fail
destroys it all...

Then I'd automatically clone the pool (best with dd, but again depends
on pool size) to one external USB drive. Then bring the USB drive to an
external location and connect the second USB to BackupPC to get the
image backup of the upcoming week. And so far. So you'll always have an
offsite backupc - even if the current copy breaks it all.

Re rsync tool, I'd not recommend to use. It sounds good, but due to the
nature of the pool it might take days (!) to sync properly 'coz of all
the hardlinks.
