Read /etc/backuppc/config.pl. It will tell you 90% of what you need to know.

If you're using Ubuntu, it's probably giving you an example localhost.pl
file, which demonstrates how per-host config files put into /etc/backuppc
(and referenced by name in /etc/backuppc/hosts), override configuration
directives in config.pl.
