To clarify, I don't know if I need a mirror or not. It was necessary

Uhm, first of all: what exactly do you mean by 'mirror'? Do you mean RAID1, the mirroring over 2 disks in the NAS devices, or the synchronization of the 2 NAS units?

And how did you backup it previously, and why could you not restore it?

In the Linux strategy, it may not be necessary depending on the way
the data is accessible in the backup. I don't know enough about
Amanda to tell you if we still need a mirror or not. Though I suspect
it will make life easier.

I don't know enough about your setup to tell you if you still need a mirror or not :)

The way I see it, the mirror is used if the whole NAS drive becomes
unusable and the backups are used to restore a single folder or file.

This could be one way to do things.

But I still don't get the 2 offices-not-connected things you were talking about, and what that has to do with the above. But if that's important, we'll hear about it ;)
