Does anyone happen to know how to make use of the MIC information on an AIT tape (AIT5) using mtx?

I found something called micinfo at http://www.sony.net/Products/storagesolution/documents/download03.html, but it is a lengthy patch to mtx 1.2.11, and I find no updates. A google search for "ait micinfo" turns up no other hits than the link above, and micinfo all by itself gets a flood of audio stuff. It would seem that a patch of that sort would certainly fail if applied to the current version of mtx.

I'm using a SONY LIB162/A5BBLE, which is a 16 tape carousel changer with one AIT5 drive and a barcode reader. I have mtx 1.2.17rel, and it seems to work just fine. I'm on a Sun E250 running Solaris 9 using the sgen driver. I can move tapes around, get info on the library, etc., using mtx. It gives me the barcode information in the output. That's cool, but it seems a shame not to use the MIC information as well.

I have also set up the st driver for the tape, and can successfully access that with mt and do ufsdump & ufsrestore.

I'm in the process of configuring amanda, assuming I will use chg-zd-mtx, and will then begin to replace our antiquated server-by-server backup system.

If I'm wasting time and this is a dead end for whatever reason, then perhaps someone could fill me in on why. I'm not sure amanda would even make use of the information or where it would plug it in if it did. However, since we're working from open source, it seems it should be possible.

Thank you,
