i have an amanda installation (Version 2.4.5) where i make all the backups
onto disks. This disks are in a removable container so i can swap the
disks. I plan to swap the disks each week or so, so in case of a site
disaster i have one Disk somewhere off site.
So i have th situation that i have for example virtual tapes daily00 ..
daily 99, but at any given time, only 20 of them are online, e.g daily
20..daily39.
How can i handle this with amanda, do i have to edit
..etc/amanda/<config>/tapelist file each time i swap the disks?
While the "canonical" changer for using vtapes is nowadays chg-disk, I just
retired a vtapes based config that was using chg-multi and operated exactly
as described above. I had two external HDDs, each divided into 5
sub-directories named SLOT1...SLOT5. On first disk I had tapes labelled
TAPE01...TAPE05 in these "slots", on second disk I had tapes labelled
TAPE06..TAPE10. The disks were swapped every Monday.
There was no need to manually modify tapelist or any other amanda config
file when swapping disks. Everything worked automatically.
I'm just beginning to explore if/how the same kind of automation can be
achieved with chg-disk.
