dumper-api?  I thought the story was that's being replaced with
application-api.

In any case I offered a programmer's time 2 years ago to fix
this w/o waiting on any api.  I just wanted agreement first
that if we developed it as proposed it would be accepted.
But we were never told it would be accepted.  Or not accepted.
Just no answer at all.
