You need equals signs ("=") between the keywords and values in the
changer.conf file.  Like this:

havereader=1
firstslot=1
lastslot=17
cleanslot=-1
offline_before_unload=0

If chg-zd-mtx doesn't find good values for those keywords, it uses mtx
to figure them out itself.
