I've just the same problem, but my amanda.conf looks like this

dumpcycle 0             # the number of days in the normal dump cycle
runspercycle 5 days     # the number of amdump runs in dumpcycle days
tapecycle 5 tapes       # the number of tapes in rotation

labelstr "^Tape[1-5]*$"

and I have 5 tapes listed in the tapelist file:

20031017 Tape5 reuse
20031016 Tape4 reuse
20031015 Tape3 reuse
20031014 Tape2 reuse
20031011 Tape1 reuse

Seems to me it's quite strange that the dates weren't updated by the last 
amanda run last night - 2003, October 21, dumped on Tape2. However I'm not 
sure if this is the cause of my problem or not.
