Yep, setting up NDMP is like trying to drive through an obstacle course with a
blindfold on.

I think your dataformat is wrong on the DEFINE DATAMOVER.
You want NDMPDUMP, not NETAPPDUMP, as your box isn't a NetApp.
>From the book:

DATAFormat (Required) Specifies the data format that is used by this data
mover.
NETAPPDump
NETAPPDUMP must be used for NetApp NAS file servers and the IBM System
Storage N Series.
CELERRADump
CELERRADUMP must be used for EMC Celerra NAS file servers.
NDMPDump
NDMPDump must be used for NAS file servers other than NetApp or EMC file
servers.

Dear W,

Thanks for the reply. i'm on a steep learning curb with NDMP. i followed these
instructions which were provided by another adsm-l member.

http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/tsminfo/v6/index.jsp?topic=%2Fcom.ibm.itsm.srv.doc%2Ft_ndmp_nas_file_srvs_backup_restore.html

Performing NDMP filer to Tivoli Storage Manager server backups You can back up
data to a single Tivoli Storage Manager server rather than attaching a tape
library to each NAS device.

on step 3.

register node nas1 nas1 type=nas domain=standard define datamover nas1 type=nas
hla=nas1 user=root password=***** dataformat=netappdump

i get

ANR9999D_2854923275 spiOutMsg(ndmpspi.c:1271) Thread<227>: NDMP Server does not
support Token Base Incremental Backup.

i found this in the archives when searching for this error:

"BlueARC support pointed me in the right direction.
`ndmp-option -d tokens on`, followed by an NDMP service restart on the NAS made
backups work. Now to figure out the rest of the NDMP voodoo.."

it's an old posting, but hnas is using BlueARC's ndmp and i have the hnas docs
and console access, so i'll follow this lead and see were it takes me..

if anyone else has any ideas, it would be greatly appreciated.

Many Thanks.
