currently runs on. For example, you cannot upgrade a server that is
running on an AIX(r) system to a server on a Linux system. The only
exception is a cross-platform upgrade from a V5 server that is running
on z/OS(r) to a V6.3 or later server on AIX or Linux on System z(r). For
more information about the cross-platform upgrade, see Migrating Tivoli
Storage Manager V5 servers on z/OS systems to V6 on AIX or Linux on
System z.
So although it might work, it's not supported!

Haven't tried it with v6, but that's how I moved a server from solaris
to suse linux. The linux was running as a guest under VM on our
mainframe.

Is it really as easy as just installing a new server on the new platform
and then restoring a db?
I wasn't aware that you could restore a db across platforms. I thought
you would have to export/import the nodes out of the AIX server into the
Linux server.

Shouldn't be a big deal.
However, tougher with v6 than v5.
You should be able to restore a db backup after installing the new
server.
Then, define storage pools, tape drives, and libraries as necessary.
