Hi,

You've left out te element address of the drive with which you want to
label the cartridges.

NOT: dsmlabel -drive=/dev/rmt1 -library=/dev/rmt1.smc -search -keep

BUT: dsmlabel -drive=/dev/rmt1,16 -library=/dev/rmt1.smc -search -keep

The internal addressing for the robot part of the 3570 consists of
elements. The drives have elements 16 and 17. The cartridge slots have
elements 31 to 50 where element 31 is the import/export station. In some
commands you have to use the element address to tell the robot where the
cartridge is or whereto it must be moved or where it should be
processed.

DSMLABEL is supposed to put a standard label on the cartridges so ADSM
can identify them by reading the volumelabel.

If your 3570 unit is equipped with a barcode reader you can tell
dsmlabel to read the barcodes and label the cartridges accordingly. All
this information and more regarding the 3570 unit can be found in the
device support document which you can find at the INDEX.STORSYS.IBM.COM
site in the same directory where the server PTF's reside.

Good luck !!!
