We used to get really slow DB backups and never really got to the bottom
We used to get really slow DB backups and never really got to the bottom
of it. The problem disappeared when we started following this procedure
every day (not to solve this problem - because of other problems!)....

reboot server
power off and on all attached SCSI devices

Subject: "backup db type=full" takes ages

Hi ADSM'ers
since a few days we observe a dramatic change of elapsed time used for
a "backup db type=full devclass=exb-10i-s vol=......"
Normally it took ca. 1 hour for a 430000 pages DB each working day.
Now it takes nearly 1 day.

The only change was a PTC (positive temperature coefficient) trip on the
F&W SCSI-2 SE Adapter-card when we inadvertently connected a differential

ended tape robot to the single ended SCSI-bus causing a SRN 890-098.
The PTC-trip was recovered by switching the machine off for more than
5 minutes. The adapter runs ALL the disks connected to the ADSM-server.

Any ideas wether there may be some side-effects causing the strange
behaviour ?
