I wonder if I could hear some IBM response to the following, as well as
response from other list serve readers.

The Novell administrator with whom I work is curious about ADSM's compatibility
with some of Novell's 4.x features, particularly 4.x's data compression.  As I
understand it, 4.x has the ability to compress data after a certain period of
non-use.  He is familiar with (and hopes that ADSM is among this number) backup
products which backup the compressed data directly without Novell seeing the
backup product itself as just another user for which it must decompress the
data on its own available storage media.  That is, he doesn't want to have to
plan to have enough Novell storage space for decompression of the data as ADSM
performs its backup; additionally, he would not view that as an efficient
method to handle backup for Novell 4.x's new features.

Beyond general response to the above, I have specific questions I would like to
see addressed:
1. Where is ADSM in its compatibility with Novell 4.x?
2. What are ADSM's future plans re Novell 4.x?
3. How does ADSM currently address the concerns in the above paragraph?
4. How does ADSM expect to address those concerns if it doesn't currently?
