RE: [nv-l] 7.1.5 AIX Discovered objects in DB but no symbols on map--have PMR open FIXED

Sure enough, it was unmanaged segments and networks. I
found well over 100 of both unmanaged, and none of them were obvious
answers for the devices in question. There will be a post mortem to try and
figure out how this happened. However, after managing them all and running
ovtopofix, the discovered devices in question now have symbol objects and OVW*
properties in ovobjprint.
You guys had it right, and thanks once again. I will
close the PMR. Great idea about the Smart Sets, Leslie.

The same thing happened - you mean a
server was discovered but no symbol showed up? I would expect that it is at the hint stage (Interface:xx.xx.xx.xx) or it
is excluded from discovery.

Thanks for the reply. I checked that after first searching the list
archives yesterday. The subnet status was Up with ovtopodump/Normal(2) in
ovobjprint. For grins I discovered a server I knew was on a managed subnet and
the same thing happened.
Thanks again--Drew

Hi Drew,
I've had such a problem in the past.
The
reson in my case was, that the network icon of the network segment of the
devices ip has been flagged as
"unmanaged".

Hi folks,
Newly discovered objects are added to
the database, but the corresponding map symbols aren't created. By that, I
mean you discover a device, see it using ovtopodump, but can't locate it on
the map. We use only the default map. ovobjprint -s validates there are no
OVW Maps Exists or OVW Maps Managed fields. We schedule ovmapcount and
ovtopofix maintenance 3 times per week, and I have already tried it again,
but no change. The subnets these devices would connect to are managed.
Everything seems to be working, but no symbols. Existing items are fine, you
can locate them, etc.
If you add the same device to the development
7.1.5 server, it's all good. The admins say they haven't changed anything,
and it seems the database is fine, NV's running OK. The symbols files/oid_to*
are all there as expected.
We've opened a PMR, but nothing resolved
yet. I searched the list and found good suggestions that have it narrowed to
this point. Any ideas on what to check
next?
Thanks!--Drew
