RE: [nv-l] 7.1.5 AIX Discovered objects in DB but no symbolson map--have PMR open

Good stuff, Leslie. Thank you--I'll try this later in the
morning and no matter what, when I get it resolved I'll post it so others won't
have to chase their tails.
I used to see that in 7.1.4, and
kept a smartset of '(isNetwork=True) && ("IP Status"="Unmanaged")' just
so I could see them when their colors did not match their status. I have not
seen it in 7.1.5.
Nothing in the
nettl log? No clues in netmon.trace?
I would use the serious cleanup tools to get rid of anything that might
be blocking proper rediscovery: ovtopofix -m, and treat the results with ovwdbdmap -d and ovmapcount
-b, and treat the results as the output instructs.
Turn on netmon tracing, rediscover them and and grep the
address in the netmon.trace.
If they
are SNMP. make sure you are discovering those things by real addresses that
appear in the address table and reference interface index numbers that are in
the interface table.
If they are not
SNMP devices, make sure you are looking for them in the right place. Who knows
what mask netmon decided on? Could be 255.0.0.0 nvUtil e '(isInterface=True) && '("IP
Address"="xx.xx.xx.xx")'

Hi Drew,
I've had such a problem in the past.
The reson in
my case was, that the network icon of the network segment of the devices ip
has been flagged as
"unmanaged".

Hi folks,
Newly discovered objects are added to
the database, but the corresponding map symbols aren't created. By that, I
mean you discover a device, see it using ovtopodump, but can't locate it on
the map. We use only the default map. ovobjprint -s validates there are no
OVW Maps Exists or OVW Maps Managed fields. We schedule ovmapcount and
ovtopofix maintenance 3 times per week, and I have already tried it again,
but no change. The subnets these devices would connect to are managed.
Everything seems to be working, but no symbols. Existing items are fine, you
can locate them, etc.
If you add the same device to the development
7.1.5 server, it's all good. The admins say they haven't changed anything,
and it seems the database is fine, NV's running OK. The symbols files/oid_to*
are all there as expected.
We've opened a PMR, but nothing resolved
yet. I searched the list and found good suggestions that have it narrowed to
this point. Any ideas on what to check
next?
Thanks!--Drew
