Now I have to take it back. I just read
Jame's post from 8/19 (Re: [nv-l] NV map question). You can turn off the
child area in /usr/OV/app-defaults/OVw.
OVw*viewAreaHasScrolled:
False
OVw*viewAreaHasControl:
False
Read the file for more information.
I have not tried this. I just use the nav tree to clear them when they
get full, and Maximize/Minimize on the context menu when I temporarily
want more screen space.

Not that I have ever seen. The purpose of the maximize function is to give
more screen. It appears to be all or nothing.
