RE: [nv-l] locations

I had the same problem with the script. Our TEC guru came up with this fix for us, and the script works fine now.
The problem of empty output is caused by the readline function, a seldom used Perl function that apparently behaves differently in different versions of Perl. If you replace all instances of "readline ($_[0])" with "<MAPDUMP>", the script should work fine in any version (or at least version 4 or better, which is all I've ever worked with) of Perl.
I'd be willing to bet money the author is originally a C programmer. :)

I guarantee it is the PERL level.
I have no explanation other than I had the same issue and the author assured me using a current version of PERL would resolve it (which it did).

Yes, you can do it without rediscovery, but you must make a new map, as in 'File..New Map'. Without efixes on 7.1.4 there are some problems with this. Get the efix for APAR IY48698. In fact you ought to call Support and ask for the latest recommended efixes. I hear they are getting close to the first fixpack for 7.1.4, so there are a few good ones you might want to put on.
And even without a new map, nodes and networks that are discovered later will be placed according to the location.conf that was in place when you started the Netview interface.

Hi Mario,
You can modify the file and stop and restart netview.
Then all new nodes and routers are put on the designated location.

Hi list,
Can I configure a location.conf file in a NV 7.1.4 running on a AIX box after the initial discovery (a production box) ? I mean, will NV put each discovered objet in its appropriate location container ? Or this can be done only at the initial discovery ?
Thanks.
