As I understand it....

The seedfile lives in /usr/OV/conf/netmon.seed (or wherever you told
server-setup to put it). This file defines the scope of discovery
(i.e. which nodes are discovered and added to the databases) for the
netmon daemon. It dictates what stuff ends up in the database. To
add a node, add it to your seedfile, and hit netmon with "netmon -y"

The polling/snmp configuration portion of the GUI modifies a separate
data structure (snapshot in /usr/OV/conf/ovsnmp.conf) that tells
netmon what parameters and community strings to use when it accesses
devices already in its database.

The MIB database is orthogonal to these. The mib database in
/usr/OV/conf/snmpmib.bin and the text snapshot in /usr/OV/conf/snmpmib
maintain those items. You add stuff with xnmloadmib and browse it
with xnmbrowser (GUI selection says "SNMPv1" in reference to this db).
Data collections and thresholds uses xnmbrowser (which explains why
you can do data collections and thresholds via the GUI to monitor
"snmpv2" variables.

There is a separate database for snmpv2. /usr/OV/conf/snmpmib2.bin and
snmpmib2 both updated by xnmloadmib2 and browsed with xnmbrowser2.
The GUI selection for these says "SNMPv1/v2"

With NV 7.1 there is yet another mib database maintained by the web
tool that I haven't used yet.
