Catalina,

There is no built in function to have DNS updated by NetView. NetView
uses system calls to utilize a DNS for name resolution as long as the host
that NetView resides in is configured to use the DNS. If I remember
right, you were working on building an /etc/host file from sysnames. Now,
it seems that you wnat to import that /etc/host file to DNS. There are
tools available to maintain/configure DNS systems that can inport files
that are in /etc/host format. I have seen other companies use them, I
have not used them myself.

I do have a script for building complete DNS configuration files from a
NetView database. This was written to maintain/self-configure a DNS
running on the NetView server for improved performance. It "replaced" the
current configuration in the DNS with the interfaces that were in NetView.
This is part of the value-add that some services personnel from IBM can
bring to an engagement, so I am not at freedom to share it directly with
you. If you want to engage them, send me a note offline from this forum.

Kind regards,
