Yes, you can make this adjustment in /usr/OV/conf/C/if_to_sym, but I
don't think a lot of people are doing it. I have had some success with
this, and also a spectacular failure in the case where there were
intentional duplicate IP addresses on those interfaces. I would also
avoid this if there are unnumbered interfaces involved. The intention
was to draw serials as straight lines, and the changes in the code in
the last year or so to handle unnumbered, and hsrp, and admin down, and
intentional duplicates has probably put some strain on this function.
Note that the if_to_sym file makes the change based on ifType, and will
handle them all the same. The network and segment are drawn for the first
interface it finds with that address and their type is based on the type
of that interface. As others come along, if they are of type 'Other', they
are added to that first segment; if others come along with different
ifTypes, other segments will be added for their types. So you might not get
exactly what you expect, and you might have to do some rediscovery.
