I called support and there are only 3 solutions to this issue:



Solution Desc:  "error retrieving mapdb field info: null field value" error
is displayed when trying to start the Netview GUI. Ver. 4.x, 5.0        
                
Solution:       CAUSE: One cause of this problem should be fixed by APAR
IX68866 and PTF U451880. The same database corruption and error message can
be caused from the "/usr/OV filesystem" running out of space. 

SOLUTION: If the filesystem has run out of space:

1. NetView databases must be restored from a good backup

Or: 

2. NetView databases must be regenerated

SOLUTION # 574  

        I found this solution as I was talking to Tivoli, and it seems these
are the only solutions. Moral of the story "Watch your /usr/OV file system"
I guarantee that I will have TEC monitor /usr/OV now!

        Corruption of the databases in quite possible as a result of a full
        filesystem and what you are seeing may be a sign of that. I can't
tell you
        if you can recover from this error - maybe somebody else can, else
try
        talking with support. But the easiest resolution would be to fix the
file
        system space issue and restore from a known good backup of the
databases.
        Run reset_ci and the usual utilities to resolve database
inconsistencies
        and then try restarting NetView and bringing up the GUI.

        I am running NetView 6.0.1 AIX 4.3.2. Last night the file system
/usr/OV
        ran out
        of disk space. I restarted NetView and ran the Resolve Database
        Inconsistancies
        from Serversetup and now when I launch the GUI, I get the following
        message.
        "Error retreiving mapdb field info: Null Field Value" After I click
the OK
        button, the GUI shuts down. HELP!
