I had a similar problem.  Ovw is just the user interface.  The
ovstart/ovstop is just for the underlying daemon processes.

It might be related to the lack of colors for your display, f (video
driver).  I saw the problem when I was running multiple color intensive
applications (TEC, Netview, Netscape).  Try running just Netview and see if
you have problems.

Any one if you can hard limit the number of colors that you want Netview to
use?  I know netscape has this option.
