Judy & Douglas: Thanks for the comments and for suggesting the restore back
to a Windows machine. I just did that and indeed, the restored file is 100%
identical to the original ! Now I'm sure the backup on tape is perfectly
fine.
As this was just a special situation (we usually don't mix backup/restores of
different policy types) I won't investigate further as to why it doesn't work
from widnows-to-linux. At least now I know that other people have
experienced the same behaviour. Thanks.
Justin: Thanks to you too. Our master server is also the media server. I
tried, like you mentioned, to copy the file from Windows to Linux using ftp.
I had to use ncftp as the stock ftp client can't handle files bigger than
2GB. The transfer went perfect (the checksum was identical as original). I
guess I'll need to investigate further within NBU for this if I ever need
again to do the windows-to-linux thing. Thanks!
