Is this an existing client that has previously backed up successfully?

If not you might want to verify that the xinetd package was actually
installed BEFORE the NBU software. NBU installer is brain dead and will
create an inetd.conf if it doesn't find xinetd.d or inetd.conf already
in place. This does no good because nothing would ever read the
inetd.conf.

If it is an existing client check to see if iptables is running "service
iptables status". Iptables is the Linux firewall package. If you have
that and/or a firewall device between the client and the server you may
need to modify your setup on Master - if not setup on 5.1 it uses some
random ports. When setup correctly it will use only 13782 and 13724,
one in bound and the other outbound. In 6.x it uses only vnetd so this
isn't required.

Clients don't run daemons, the necessary processes are started when the
server connects to the client via inetd (or xinetd in the case of
linux).

It should connect on the "bpcd" port, #13782. Telnet from your master
server to your client on this port and see if you get a prompt of sorts.
That'll give you a bunch of potentially useful information.

Recently our veritas Netbackup server (Win 2003) can NOT connect to one
of client (Redhat LINUX 3.7). Netbackup admin told me some kind of
network socket problem.

Can anyone help me on following:

1. which daemon need be up on Netbackup client (redhat LINUX)?
(Netbackup client version 5.1)

2. which socket on client use by Netbackup?

Thanks.
