With LTO3, you *really* ought to be using disk staging if at all possible.
As someone already stated, the minimum speeds are quite high.  For IBM LTO3=
,
it's 40MB/sec.  If you can't meet the mimimum speeds you're going to
prematurely wear out your tapes and drives and of course, you're not making
good use of these awesome drives.  I'm using Linux staging media servers an=
d
seeing up to 160MB/sec for 2GB fragments.  With this throughput, one drive
per media server does quite nicely.

 cat /usr/openv/netbackup/NET_BUFFER_SZ
65536

was the single most important tweak I made to get better performance with
these drives.
