Assuming NDMP vs network backups (not SAN media servers or some other
"advanced" configuration), and assuming late model type drives (fFC
connecting LTO1+ or similar) you should get significantly reduced backup
times.

file level restores will typically take much longer than if you'd done a
network type backup/restore, so it is highly advisable to use the
filer's built in snapshot ability for day to day file recovery.

I can't really say I've seen any "common problems" with NDMP....there
are no clients to install, so there's less admin work there.
Once the server software is installedand a tape drive attached to the
filer, and a STU created, it pretty much just works.
