I'm not using cluster client.
=20
I backup C:\ ( and D:\ ) and system-state of each of the physical
nodes, using the name/IP of the restpective physical nodes.
=20
the two physical nodes share SAN attached volumes in several cases, and
share a HP SCSI drive array in several other cases.
=20
file services are provided via virtual name/IPs residing on the
clusters, and data sits on shared drives, S, T, or whatever.
=20
=20
so S:\, T:\, etc, are backed up via the respective virtual name/IP
associated with that resource....Q (quorum) is backed up as part of the
system state of the physical nodes.
=20
do do a full DR, two basic systems are imaged, volumes are created on
the shared array, and assigned drive letters.
=20
full restores of the physical nodes are performed, using the option to
allow the disk signature of the quorum to be overwritten.
both nodes are rebooted.....cluster is up and running with all resources
available.
=20
shared resources are now restored to the respective virtual names/IPs.
=20
Works for us.

We are running NBU 4.5 but we are backing up our Windows 2003
Cluster Server the way you have described it. We have a virtual shared
IP and name dedicated for the backup process. We are only backing up
shared drives that are backed up to disk so I can't answer about
restoring the whole cluster, I can tell you that I have restored files
with no issues whatsoever. Hope this helps.

Subject: [Veritas-bu] Backuping Up Cluster 2003 Server

        =20

        Hi again

Does anyone have any experience on backing up a cluster with NBU
5.x ?

        =20

I have a question that I would like to get confirmed as being
the correct answer, in the event of problems restoring the cluster!

        =20

        Basic setup

        =20

Windows 2003 Server Cluster is known as CLUSTER01. The Nodes are
known as Cluster02 and Cluster03 as physical computer names. On top of
this, they also have "Virtual Names" known to the users as "Data" and
"Personal"

        =20

At the moment, I have the Netbackup client installed on
Cluster02 and Cluster03 (As this is the physical computer names of the
Servers).

        =20

Now, what I have been doing is performing backups using the
"Virtual Names". This has been working fine, without too many issues.

        =20

However, my question is this: Should I also be doing backups of
the Physical Computer Names or not?

        =20

Not knowing clustering that well, I was not entirely sure if
this is the correct process, but it does work!

        =20

Would be grateful for any information on this. I want to be 100%
sure that in the event of a disaster, I can safely recover the node or
worse case, the entire cluster.

        =20

        Thanks for any comments

        =20

        Simon
