Hi Craig,

I was hoping that I wouldn't need an st.conf entry for Solaris 9, as you pointed
out. However testing in our environment showed that the tape drives locked up
(required power cycle) with the default settings.

My testing was deliberately brutal - I created a 5 Gb file by catting
/dev/urandom, and copied that to tape with the dd command.

After a few iterations, the tape would hang. Using the st.conf entry in my
earlier post (which was recommended by StorageTek) I had no failures.
Another version taken from IBMs Red Book on LTO-2 was also unsuccessful - I
don't know if they have any differences in firmware between the 3580 and the OEM
drive.

Since Sun were unwilling / unable to tell me what options were compiled into the
default driver, I chose to take the StorageTek recommendation - we've had no
problems since (well, none related to drive communications anyway!)

Cheers
Mike
