Just a quick followup. Our problem turned out to be a classic one. We
were
basically installing new W2K servers and the auto-negotiation on the
network
interfaces weren't correctly configured for the Cisco switches they're tied
into. So while we could communicate with the W2K boxes to initiate backups
(very small packet sizes worked ok), as soon as we started up a backup
stream
which used large network packets (1460 bytes), the packets were getting
corrupted.
After configuring both sides for 100Mb full-duplex, everything worked fine.
