We use disk today to both hold primary images and as cache for tape
copies. Works just fine. We use it because we make mutiple copies of
all backups and have too many backups to do at night to allow everthing
to be twinned during the night. One caveat, remember when sizing your
solution that caching means you will be creating an additional image on
disk which will take additional time and increases the overall cost of
the backup operation.=20

I'm interested in any "lessons learned" or other experiences
that anyone would care to share about implementing disk-based backup
solutions with NBU 4.5 (using Vault to make tape copies). We're about
to embark down this road with a new NetApp R150.

        Thanks!
