I have seen this same problem. It is possible to use the "backup network
drives" check box when you have a NT/2k master and NT/2k client. It
doesn't work well when you mix NT and Unix. The reason why is because the
request is made using let's say "root" on unixserverA. That account does
not have access to the mapped drive K:\.(There is no way to give it
access) You can backup the local drives because you are using the client
software, but once you start going to the mapped drives it doesn't have
permissions.

What I would try:

Try getting an account on the Windows side that had admin rights on both
the server that has the client installed and to the mapped drive. Then I
would change the client service on the client to run as this account. This
might just let you backup the mapped drive like you want. Let us know.

Thanks,

Kris

Hi

If this was the case that you could map a network drive and then back it
up, what would have been the use of Netbackup client software? You could
then just have had a master/media server and mapped the drives of the
systems you want to back up.

I don't think it is possible to do this type of backup, but then again I
might be wrong.

Thanks for your clue.

I mean I'm mapping a network drive from another machine.
I modified the class (policy) and set 'yes' to
"backup network drives".

Now it seems to attempt to do so, but I still get an error
message saying: "WRN: Can't open directory K: (WIN32 5:
Access Denied)". Then I get the status code 251 because
I request a TIR file but it turns out to be zero byte.

Thanks for helping.
