It is my understanding the mediaid created using bplabel is not important to
NetBackup. If you are using a library with barcode labels on the media,
then that is what NetBackup uses. If the label you gave it using bplabel,
mismatches the barcode label, NetBackup uses the barcode label. The only
thing I am aware of bplabel doing is preparing a tape with non-netbackup
data to be used with Netbackup, or secondly, if a barcode label comes off
the media you can easily find out what barcode label should be on the tape.
Can anyone reaffirm this?

I don't think there is a "truly unique ID". It's all just the Volume label.
That why each media server must be managing a unique set of ID's. In other
words, if the media servers are sharing a common master, then the volume
ID's must be unique within that set of servers. Don't duplicate ID's.
The Vol DB then, on the master server, knows about all the tapes that can be
used by all the different media servers. When a tape is assigned to a media
server, then the volume ID entry is made in that media servers media
database. When the tape is unassigned, it'll be removed. Don't label two
pieces of media the same name if it's got a common master server.
I'd go on to say that if you've got more than one master server, to still
not duplicate labels. Operationally, you're just begging them to be mixed
up. "And which tape 000001 do you want inserted?".

GUID would be the unique id of the media. Can I label two pieces of media
