i had this same issue with the ibm drives in my scalar 1K  the only fix i
found was to install the ibm LTO drivers.  Since doing this i have yet to
see one write or read error

Hi Folks !
I have a IBM Ultrium 3584 tape library with 8 drives with Netbackup 
Datacenter 3.4 on a Solaris 8 server. The problem I am facing is, whenever 
there is a media write error, the drives go down and I can see SCSI timeout 
errors on the syslog of the media server. And the tape gets struck in the 
drive. It looks like it is not able to eject the tape. I would assume media 
write errors should not cause the drives to go down.

Any idea ?
